Fernand Collin Prize for Law

The Fernand Collin Prize for Law aims at stimulating junior researchers at Belgian institutions in the area of law. The award was established in honour of Fernand Collin (1897-1990), who was chairman of Kredietbank from 1938 to 1973. He was also a professor at the Catholic University of Leuven. He proposed the idea of a European currency as early as 1956 in a lecture at the Yale Law School, as mentioned in this paper..

Originally the Prize, presently worth 7,500 €, was awarded every two years to a researcher at a Belgian academic institution for a Dutch-language scholarly work on law. Below you will find the list of the laureates. By clicking the name you get more information on the research work.

Since more and more scientific works in the universities in Flanders are written in English, it was decided to organize, in addition to the Fernand Collin Prize for Dutch-language works (in even years), a Prize for English-language works (in odd years). for doctoral works or other research works carried out in universities in Flanders. This Fernand Collin Prize for Anglophone works is organized for the first time in 2023.

From 2023 on there will be two versions of the FERNAND COLLIN Prize

In odd years (2023, 2025, ...) the FERNAND COLLIN Prize for research works in English.

In even years (2024, 2026, ...) the FERNAND COLLIN Prize for research works in Dutch.

Both Prizes concern doctoral theses or other research works in the area of law, carried out in Flemish universities.

The next FERNAND COLLIN Prize 2023 for research works in English
